If you’ve been hoping for a real Upstate winter, you’re in luck. The Farmers’ Almanac is calling for cold and snowy conditions across New York, and Syracuse.com says a “healthy snow season” is headed our way. After a few unpredictable years, 2025-26 might finally bring back those deep snowbanks and perfect powder days we remember.

Where to enjoy the snow around Utica and the Mohawk Valley

This region was made for winter. When the lake-effect machine starts up, trails, hills, and slopes come alive:

  • Snowmobiling: From the Westmoreland woods to the Adirondack foothills, trails will be buzzing with sleds.

  • Skiing & boarding: Woods Valley and McCauley Mountain should see prime snow conditions for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.

  • Family fun: Grab a sled, find a hill, or just enjoy that first big storm from your porch with a mug of hot cocoa.

Winter is what we make of it

Utica winters bring more than cold — they bring community. From plow drivers up before dawn to kids racing outside for the first snow day, the season’s rhythm reminds us that life doesn’t slow down — it just gets quieter, cozier, and maybe a little brighter under all that snow.

So get your gear ready and your playlists queued up. The forecasts say it’s going to snow — and around here, that’s not a problem. It’s a plan.
